The Path of Athan-Lor

I've been playing around with Eldar color schemes in my head fora while now, be they Corsair or Craftworld its far too early to say.

The general idea is that the leader will be brother of my Dark Eldar Kabals Archon, with both secretly being in league with the mysterious alien organization known only as the Cabal (of Legion fame). With that in mind I wanted the new Eldar to have a relationship with my Dark Eldars color. The link is the blue, one a midnight tone, the other a clear blue sky.

I came up with Athan-Lor. Which roughly translates as 'beyond dreams'. The color palate will be winter greys paired with icey blues and brooding purples. The rest of the fluff is early days, and I still have many Dark Eldar to paint. That and I want to see what 6th brings before I start buying models.

Dark Eldar Trueborn Squad 1

The first of my 3 Trueborns squads is done! This squad rides with the Duke so packs double splinter cannons to take advantage of his rules. Nothing fancy here, just a kit bash with warriors and dark elf corsairs which works for me. I got these out fairly quickly so they have an army standard paint job.

On the painting table is another 8 Trueborn to get done, 5 warriors and 5 Incubi. I doubt my Reavers will see paint unless I can really find a list for them. We shall see.

Dark Eldar Wyches & Incubi

Yay! 40 wyches are table worthy with 4 colors and bases done! I will (at some point) go back and finish them off, but for now they are good to go while I focus on 'fun' stuff.

I've also converted up some Incubi to test in a few anti marine lists. I've never been crazy about the helms on the new sculpts, they look far too chaotic for my tastes. So I whipped these guys up using warriors, scourges & helions. They are a spin off sect called The Whispering Blade and will see paint soon, right after my Trueborn.

Dark Eldar Haemonculus

I honestly do like the GW Haemonculus, but had so many spare bits around that I thought it would be fun (and suitable) to create my own horror.

This is a pretty simple conversion, using wych legs wrapped in green stuff robe with a warriors torso. I'm not exactly hot at green stuff work but at least I have a go, and i'm fairly happy with how it came out.

The rest of him is made up of various Dark Eldar paraphernalia like spikes, packs and tubes. Then his liquifier is a shredder base with a helion hover board exhaust...i think.

It works, feel the pain of...

The Perfectionist, Master Haemonculus

Dark Eldar Razorwing & Ravager WIP

'Heavy' Support! Well, as heavy as Dark Eldar get anyways.

These are table ready, and have already played a fair few games. I plan to go back over them and add in detail work like Kabal markings on the sails and wings, along with other eldar icons snaking around them.

Dark Eldar - Update 2

No, really, there will be photos soon I promise...

You could say I am doing the meat of the army, getting 3-4 colors on 40+ wyches. I didnt think they would make very good shots, and I only like to post finished work. I am however nearing the end of the production line, and plan on getting my trueborn finished as a 'reward'.

I did also scratch build a Haemonculus, so he needs a photo too. Plus some plastic Incubi conversion that came out well.

Project wise, my next army will be Craftworld Eldar which will need a new dex and models late this year or early next. But this one has been a long-long time in the making, biding it's time but ever in my thoughts. Eventually I want 3 Eldar armies, the Dark kin, the Craftworlders and the Exodites.

But for now I have wyches to paint...

Dark Eldar - Update

While I haven't posted many pictures of late, my Dark Eldar are being worked on! I'm trying to get three colors on everything in my 2k list, so they dont look like a horribly primered army on the table. Life in general has kept me busy and away from the tables, but getting in games and painting sessions where I can.

My Raiders are almost done so should have pictures of those soon, as is the Razorwing. It's the 40+ Wyches that are taking up my time, thankfully they are awesome models. But still, i'm not the fastest painter.

Game wise, I came 2nd with them in a local tournament so happy with my list. Also running them in the ongoing Hydra Campaign for our team The Cabal.

More very soon!

40ks 25th - My Timeline

To celebrate 40ks 25th year I broke out my own copy of Rogue Trader and started getting all nostalgic. Thinking back of the armies and models i've collected through the years, i put together a time line of my ongoing journey through the years and editions of 40k...

Painting Tip - 3 Colors

Painting an army is a daunting thing. We all want those beautiful eavy metal armies that gleam in the dexes and white dwarves.

For the rest of us we just want to get paint on there, and avoid an army looking like its been dipped. It still requires time, but with a few lil tricks you can get them on the table. If your going to a 'con that requires painted minis then this might help.

I use the 3 colors approach. Basically pick the most dominant area, then the second most and finally a spot color. On my marines this was the power armor, the metalics and the eyes or flesh.

Then you want to wash those areas. Then the last important part is to paint the base, because as gamers we associate a finished base with a finished model. This combines with the 3 washed colors to fool the eye when viewed from a distance.

You can then go back at a later date and finish the models, but this method gets painted minis on the table pretty fast.

Lady Xara Payne - Mistress of Blades

Lady Xara Payne

The mesmerizing beauty of the Succubus quickly entranced the Viscount. He never missed any of her duels in the arena and pursued her relentlessly. Xara found his advances amusing, but cared little of them. Until that is the arena turned against her, for Xara was eclipsed in popularity by the upcoming Lelith Hexperax. The Viscount promised her greater arenas and battlefields to hone her skills further, beyond the upstart Lelith. He claimed to have contacts beyond those of the dark City, and exceeding it's reach if she would come with him.

Reluctantly she agreed, and not without the aid of several ostentatious gifts, bribes, and acts of unmentionable lust.

The long kiss good knight

Lady Xara Payne toyed quizzically with the cracked helmet in her hands, running a slender ghost white finger across the intricate pattern carved into it with mild interest. She recalled the exact moment she had taken it and let out a barley audible sigh of pleasure, almost feeling the hot wash of vital liquid caress her skin once again. But the sensation was brief, and her fleeting ecstasy turned to annoyance as a dark mood swept over her features. The aftermath of battle was always a claustrophobic comedown, a juddering halt to the entrancing rhythm of battle. She loathed it so.

The winds of Alpharion whipped at the long raven black mane as she turned to her cohorts, who clung to the swiftly moving raider as it coasted effortlessly across the sands. The wyches looked up reluctantly, knowing her mood was black as the depths of the Dark City itself.

"In their tongue they call them Knights" She rasped with a mocking tone. "The purest, apparently" She quipped, admiring her reflection in the smeared crimson lenses of the grey astartes helm. "This one had spirit, until I unfortunately extracted it from his spine. He had the strangest look in his eyes as I did so, such dedication to their carrion king amuses me" A dry smokey laugh slipped from her lithe frame.

She raised her lips to the helm and slowly licked, closing her eyes but briefly, before nonchalantly tossing it overboard.

"I do hope this one has spirit, maybe he can enlighten me on what it means to be a knight?"

The astartes could only move his eye as chains dug into his flesh and pinned him to the side of the raider. He looked into a face that was both mesmerizing and intricately cunning. Flash backs ignited in his fractured mind of his brothers being cut down with quick silver strokes of deathly beauty. He tried to scream in grief but nothing came out... he would get used to that feeling in the coming months..
