To Infinity!

I know. 6th has just come out and I should be caught up in the whirlwind. But alas I am not.

While I did buy the new 40k book on the day of release I had been feeling a distinct empathy towards the game for a few months before. Every new rumor seemed to squash any future projects I had in mind. While I think 6th is a good edition, the cons out weigh the pros for me personally. I'm not digging the randomness, nerfs to assault and the blatant 'buy more models' pitch that is Allies. I feel GW has somewhat lost its way.

It's been brewing for a while, and I while I will continue to play 40k I need a break. So I took a look at Infinity as I have been meaning to for months. I discovered a deep and rewarding game that has great support - Free rules online, low model (and thus dollar) count, gorgeous sculpts and a great community.  The game is silky smooth and makes 40k seem sluggish and incredibly unbalanced. There is no power army like Grey Knights and all the factions offer what you need. So there is tons of variety.

I've ordered some Nomads, so will be painting them this month inbetween bouts of real life.

  1. Whilst Infinity doesn't require one to shell out a stack of notes to make a team, a player will still have to pay out quite a bit on top for an adequate amount of scenery or materials to build said scenery. Still not as much as buying a 40K army mind, but it's still not cheap per se.
Then again, this hobby in all it's guises is nothing but a luxury, and luxuries are meant to be expensive. :)

I look forward to seeing how you get on with this project. Were I to have someone to play against, I'd most certainly pick up the Haqisslam (s/p?) faction stuff - those sculpts are amazing!

    1. Very true, and i'm actually looking forward to making some terrain. My local store has a good amount so its not something that is needed right away.

What I do like is that there is a ton of free resource out there. Having just bought the new hefty 6th ed book, its nice to have free. Plus instead of FAQs they can just update the rules and everyone is upto date with one click. That makes me want to spend more on their models as I am a happy customer.

Finding opponents is tricky, but I have a few people lined up and interested. They print off the rules and proxy some models and away you go.

  2. Wow glad to see you make the leap into Infinity! As for terrain they are correct if you take the standard approach to terrain and make real or sold terrain as I like to call it then yeah you will be paying a butt load for it. But if you go the paper route then your terrain will be a lot cheaper. That is the route that I am taking and it seems to work great. Now you will still be spending some time on the terrain but it will not cost as much in the long run.

As for the army you chose...HELL YEAH! Nomads rock!!! :)
