Painted JSA - Yuriko Oda

Double life? Double the risk! Only one thing is more dangerous than being a Guǐ Fēng working for the Yǎnjīng (“The Eyes”, Yu Jing’s Military Intelligence department), and that is being a double agent infiltrated into that special operations unit. Especially when you are an agent of the Kempeitai, the covert military organization that advocates Nipponese secession.

Another Dire Foes Spec Op, this time for my JSA. Yuriko, is basically a charcter, and comes with a couple of loadout options. I picked her up mainly for her ITS potential, and linkability with Keisotsu. She also has some pretty cool fluff, where she is a double agent. Operating for the Yu Jing empire, but really fighting for a free Japan.

Painting her I decided to give her more red than the studio theme, and also link her in with my Haramaki should I ever need a an extra link member. She can also be used as an upgradable Spec ops, so she has value for sure.

With her I did a non metallic sword using just greys. I'm pretty pleased with it, so have to decide if i want to re-paint all the other swords...in a ninja and samurai faction...

She will also be present in an upcoming bat rep, so i have a few more JSA almost done on the painting table. I also have a new objective room and objectives to paint for that game too. So look out for that one soon!

  1. Looking very good! And the highlights on the black appeared properly!!

How did you find the NMM on the sword then? Something you'd continue with or just an interesting experiment? I keep thinking that I should really give it a go, but then time and itchiness to keep painting kick in.

I'm not the biggest fan of this model which I think it down to the posing. If I do purchase, I think I'd have to cut the sword arm so its hanging down at her side, rather than the right angle its currently at.

Sterling work on the backs of the lower legs too.

  2. Thanks Kitsune!
Yeah, the NMM is something i will keep trying to refine. Im moving away from metalics for infinity, just using them here and there. Id say give NMM a whirl, just to play around abd experiment.

The model itself looks better in person, but im the same in that i wasnt crazy about her. I proxied for a few games, and then just bought the mini. Managed to offload the other spec ops in the box too!

    1. Is there a tutorial you used or did you just wing it with colouring? I've never got on with metallics in spite of being able to get an "okay" result, so NMM might suit me a bit better!

I'm gonna proxy a haramaki (the double hand sword one) for a while but will probably also end up picking up the DF box.

    2. I watched a few you tube vids, but it's basically blending greys, white and black. I used Angels pics as a guide to where he applied the lighter and darker shades. Then it's just a case of wet blending, which isn't super difficult as long as you have a wet palette.

Metalics worked great for 40k, but the detail on Infinity minis is too fine for it as the paint pigments are bigger in metalics. So it feels like it is globbing on, and doesnt quite go on as well as I would like. Metalics in general seem to work much better on bigger areas.

Sounds like a perfect proxy, she is pretty much in Haramaki armor. I proxied the female Kempetai for a while, as she is a Kempetai after all! But honestly the model isnt bad when you get in hand.

  3. NMM is very nicely done, though I don't envy your task ahead should you choose to spread it about the already painted minis.

She's a pretty cool mini - I like her fringe. Very Betty Paige.
