Renatus was a victim of the ill-fated Eros Campaign, much like many of the 8th company. He was heavily wounded during a fierce battle with a night lords champion after being ambushed. The revered chaplain was actually dead for several hours before being revived and placed into the red dream.
Upon awakening Renatus was somewhat different, almost unhinged by the ordeal. But his skill in battle and instilling inspiration in his fellow astartes had not been dimmed. Renatus believes he has been given a second chance.
