Nomads Triple Zero Bran do Castro, who has had a quick head swap. I just wasn't crazy about the original head, so used the vortex helmet instead. I also opted not to glue his tail on, as I know it would have got broken off and didn't like it anyway.
Next up is a HMG armed Sin Eater. Who has already done very well in only a couple of games. Nothing special here, but was still fun to paint. Knocked him out in an evening.
I'm winding down my Nomads for a while to tackle my Japanese ninja/bike force, so here's a group shot of all the painted Nomads so far. If they get a juicy new release Jan or Feb then i'll slot those in too. But the JSA are coming...

Wait, does that Castro feller have hands for feet too? And are his thumb and little finger truly opposed? Crazy model!
ReplyDeleteThey make for a really cool looking group mate. You should do a group shot like that, but against and in aand around some of your lovely Infinity scenery?
Yeah, the original model has a tail and a human/monkey type head. The Nomad scientists enjoy playing with genes. He is basically a monkey ninja, very fast and agile with rules that let him bounce around the board using his monkey magic... ;)
DeleteThank ye sir! I know, that would be cool. My terrain needs paint though, so little time so much terrain. I need elves to paint it all.
Any decision yet on the colours for your JSA?
ReplyDeleteJust rough ideas. I do like the classic red, white and black, and thinking a deep red of some sort might look cool. But my Nomad scheme was actually a second option as the first one didnt work out. So my JSA could end up with something different too.
DeleteWill start abusing test miniatures early Jan!
That a good looking team you have there. Very unified and looks like an assembled strike force rather than a ragtag of bits and pieces.
ReplyDeleteWhats the blue that you are using?
Thanks Kitsune! They have been fun for sure.
DeleteThe blue is a base of Vallejo Turquoise, highlighted with Citadels Temple Guard blue and Vallejos sky blue to finish.
I tended to jump around the paint ranges with these guys, using Citadel, Vallejo and P3.
Hi Levitas, I caught your article on Bols and wanted to get in touch. My friend and I want to get into Infinity, but there's too much choice in terms of units.
ReplyDeleteI want Yu-Jing, he wanted Haqqislam.
Could you give me a shopping list for each to create a good force so we can get on with playing the game without having to worry about our unit choices at this stage?
Hey Adam, sure no problem. I'm going to quote some of my forumn buddies and pass on the knowledge...
DeleteHaqqislam:
There are some purchases that you can't go wrong with.
• Haqqislam Starter - Includes three Ghulams, a Hunzakut sniper, a Janissary, and a Naffatun. All of these guys are great, Ghulams being your standard infantry at low-level games, a Hunzakut which is a great infiltrator (or can go as a Ghulam sniper), a Naffatun which is one of the best light infantry in the game, and a Janissary which is our standard heavy infantry. This a good place to start your collection.
•Ghulam Infantry - If you don't pick up the starter, you're going to still want these guys for your smaller point games.
•Naffatun - As I said earlier, these guys are awesome. Flamethrowers are a very potent weapon in this game, especially the heavy variant.
•Hassassin Lasiq - Whether the sniper or rifle variant, these guys are incredibly lethal. They have the perfect combination of equipment and skills to make them very, very good snipers.
Odalisque with Spitfire - She's just great all-around. A super-light heavy infantry that can just wreak havoc on the enemy.
•Djanbazan with HMG - Our only access to Multispectral Visor Level 2 combined with an HMG makes for a very potent combination. It may be expensive, but this guy offers the best protection against all forms of camo, as well as ignoring low-visibility or smoke.
•Azra'il with AP Rifle and Panzerfaust - A very versatile, cheap HI. Great for beginners, as it will get better as you get better.
•Saladin - Our master tactician. A great lieutenant choice at 150+ point games.
•Hassassin Muyibs with Rifle+Light Shotgun and Spitfire - A finesse unit that gets better as you develop as a player, they are still beginner friendly as your attack models.

YU JING
DeleteA good way to start out is by getting the Yù Jīng Starter Pack, since it contains a good mix of units, many of which are still usable in advanced lists.
beyond that...
• Tigers (the 2-pack blister): Although the blister is old, the Tigers are among the most cost-effective AD troops in the game. The blister provides the basic variant, who can be used as a Paramedic or Hacker as needed, and the HMG variant. Both of them are excellent attacking units.
• Dào Fěi HMG: The only HI unit with the Camo+Infiltration combo in the game, this unit is far more dangerous then what their statline would suggest, since not only are they harder to hit, they can often Infiltrate further compared to other Infiltrators due to their HI-level PH. Since you can only get one of them, the HMG blister should be the first choice, as having Combat Camo with that weapon can be devastating to your opponent.
• Gŭi Láng Combi-Rifle: Aside from his MSV1, which makes him decent vs other Camo units, this variant can be used in many other roles, most of which provide indirect support to the rest of the team. As he is AVA 1, and not a particularly good shooter, the other blister is not a priority buy.
• Kuang Shi 4-pack: While difficult to control at times (being Impetuous), they are the cheapest source of Regular orders, and subsequently a great way to boost your order count. Their use requires a Celestial Guard with the KSCD, easily proxied from the Starter Pack, and thus indirectly brings Smoke coverage to the list.
• Hsien: Not only are they among the best combat units available, they have MSV2, which counters lots of Smoke and Camo-based lists. They work best with Smoke cover themselves. Either blister is fine, depending on whether you need the firepower (HMG) or an excellent Lt. (Multi-Rifle). (Note that the Imperial Service Starter Pack has the MR Hsien.)
• Sù-Jiàn: A unique transformer HI. While pricey $-wise as a ‘single’ unit, he is one of most tactically flexible units in Yu Jing, since he can reach objectives very quickly (Mobility Form), and hold them (Combat Form). In both Forms, he is well armed and armoured. The Mobility Form can also be used to proxy a standard REM if desired.
• Hac Tao HMG: With TO Camo and good combat stats, this unit is one of the most dangerous of options available for use, since they can do well vs most targets. While the ML variant is a deadly defensive unit, the HMG is more general purpose (especially with Combat Camo), and so make a good first pick if one has to choose between them.

Hope that helps!
DeleteI haven't covered the sectorial options here, like the Japanese for Yu Jing or the Hassassins for Haqq. But honestly, if you really like a model then buy it, as there is no bad choice in Infinity.
The starter box sets are good value and you often get unique models, they are always a great place to begin. They clock in around the 150pt mark which is good for starter games to get the hang of the rules.
Happy gaming!
Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it :)
