A look back at 2012

As 2012 begins its walk into the sunset, time to take a look back and see what I got upto in the last 12 months.

Well, the most significant event (hobby wise) was the 'summer of change'. I had started the year in full 40k mode with a Dark Eldar army gearing up for 6th edition. There was even talk and plans of a Craftworld Eldar army. That didn't quite happen, and I rather unexpectedly found my way to a new game system. 40k was for the most part replaced by Infinity, both on my painting table and in my gaming area.

It's been a fun year, Infinity has rejuvenated my painting and opened me upto a system where I feel my style is better expressed. My Nomads are well seasoned now, and I even built up a full tables worth of dense city terrain.

What's in store for next year? Who knows, this one caught me of guard quite a bit. I do know that 40k would need to do something pretty significant to pull me back, and besides I already have my next Infinity army on the painting table. That's right, a second faction - The Japanese Sectorial Army! High speed bikes, ninjas and futuristic samurais will all be coming early next year.

Thanks for reading and commenting folks, feedback has been very helpful and welcoming.

Merry Christmas!

  1. Yeah, you pretty much did an about face on how the blog started. Not a bad one thoug as all this Infinity stuff has been fun to follow for sure.

Cyberpunk ninjas eh? What a delightful idea. :)

(Btw, can't remember if I had asked before, but what part of the country are you in?)

    1. Well i hope if anything i've encouraged die hard 40k players to look at other games and miniatures. There is a lot of cool stuff out there, and its easy to miss on a diet of only GW products.

Games changes often echo changes in life, and recently ive needed a low model count game as putting the hours in gets harder and harder. I never rule anything out, and tend to go with what is attracting me and firing up my creativity at that time. The important part is it remains fun, and I hope my blog reflects that.

Well mate, I was born in the west midlands, then moved to Dallas TX four years ago. Quite different :) You're in CA right??

    2. Infinity would be a game I'd dive into (Love the Haqqislam sculpts), but I just don't have time to play what I DO have, let alone new stuff. But ya, Flames of War is my new game of choice, with my 40K projects taking a leisurely backseat seeing as none of my mates are into it.

I'm from Wales, if you hadn't read my profile entry. But yeah, moved to Sacramento CA 11 1/2 years ago to have adventures before I knocked up some unsuspecting bird and got stuck in the UK :). My sis lives in Houston. Damned humid down there, not sure I could survive.

    3. FoW has a decent following here too, as well as Bolt Action and X-Wing. Combination of GWs prices and 6th being a bit flat have caused other systems to spring into life. I also have an eye on Rick Priestleys new game, which is due to kick off with kickstarter next month.

Ah, I love wales. So pretty. I'd like to visit CA at some point too. Quite an adventure mate, you do have to watch mingling with the locals ey!

I tend not to like to go any further south than where I am. Gets just a lil too warm for my delicate British constitution.

  2. It looks as though we've had quite a similar year as I've moved onto Infinity at the expense of other (40K, Malifax) games throughout the summer.

I've got a Japanese Sectorial myself & have a Haqqislam force waiting to be built - just need to talk some of the local club into giving the game a try now!

Sterling work on the Nomad BTW, good choice of colours.

    1. Yes, a good year to get into Infinity! I know a lot of people have been left cold by 40k and opted to try something new. Infinity is a great system, and Paradiso has really added to it.

Thanks! My Nomads have been fun, they are well fleshed out now. The great thing about Infinity is that it is easy to pick up a few factions, so looking forward to the JSA.

Do you have any pics of your stuff? Would love to see them.

    2. No pics as of yet, as I've been steadily building terrain for my local club to use when playing. Minis are (mostly) built and undercoated, with next year being booked for starting to paint the forces.

Where to start though, thats the problem.............

    3. I hear you. Same deal here with terrain. I put in as many hours building terrain as I did painting this year. But finally have a good tables, and it makes a huge difference. Don't use swiss cheese 40k ruins!

      Look forward to photos soon!
